When it comes to how links to Office files should open, some users prefer the Office web apps, others prefer the Office desktop apps. We've designed an experience where you get to decide what you prefer, and then your links open in your preferred mode - either the Office web apps or the Office desktop apps.

If your Office for business subscription plan includes the desktop version of the Microsoft 365 apps you won't see an option to install it unless someone in your organization assigned a license to you.
Your install is finished when you see the phrase, "You're all set! Office is installed now" and an animation plays to show you where to find Microsoft 365 applications on your computer. Select Close.
After signing in with your work or school account you don't see an option to install the desktop applications on the Microsoft 365 home page, go directly to the Microsoft 365 Software page instead. Select the language and bit-version you want (PC users can choose between 32-bit and 64-bit), and then click Install. See Step 2 and 3 on the PC or Mac tabs above to help you with the rest of the install process.
Microsoft 365 won't install: Your computer must be running a supported operating system to install Microsoft 365. You can find a list of which systems are supported on the system requirements page. For example, your install won't be successful if you're trying to install Microsoft 365 on a computer running Windows Vista or Windows XP operating system. If your computer can't install the full desktop version of Microsoft 365, try the free Office Online apps using your desktop browser.
If you're the Microsoft 365 admin of an Office for business plan, users in your organization can only install Microsoft 365 using the steps in this topic as long as your plan includes the desktop version of Microsoft 365, and you've assigned the user a license and given them permission to install Microsoft 365 (Manage software download settings in Microsoft 365).

Prior to this feature rollout, clicking a PowerPoint, Word, or Excel file shared in Teams would open the file in Teams. Users could then select the option to open the file in the browser or Office desktop app.
Note: The option to choose 'Desktop app' is only available when using the Teams desktop app for Windows or macOS and only applies to that device. The Teams web app only shows options for 'Teams' and 'Browser'.
@RichLusk Turns out it is the version. Mine was updated today, but was .17 something. Manually updated and that made the desktop app option available. Just get the latest update (1.4.00.20364 (64-bit)) and you're in business. Finally!!! :)
I am new to this and am having problems with finding the Power Automate Desktop application to use on a Mac with a Mac OS. I have Microsoft apps on my Mac (Word, PPT, Outlook, etc) that I'd like to automate with. Is there not a desktop option of Power Automate for this? Thank you so much!!
There are keyboard shortcuts to accomplish a vast array of tasks in the Excel desktop client, in both the Windows and Mac versions. (Fewer shortcuts are available for the Mac, but you can create your own custom keyboard shortcuts if you like.)
